Produced in Austin, TX, March 23-25, 2015, the second annual TecHome Builder Summit marked a watershed moment for high volume homebuilders and their attitudes and behaviors with regard to technology.
As a result of attending the Summit, most now see technology as a key to positive differentiation versus existing homes (every builder’s top competitor) and a key to winning the business of Millennials as they enter the home buying market and Baby Boomers as they look to buy their “final destination” homes.
That view is driving builders to adopt more robust standard technology offers including at least basic home automation and to develop strong upgrade paths not only with electronics but in the HVAC and indoor air quality; lighting and electrical system; kitchen, bath and laundry tech and event so called “smart water.” It’s a sea change happening thanks to the broadening power of technology resulting from the Internet of Things movement, changing industry dynamics and surging consumer demand.
According to the post-event survey, 98 percent or more of guests agreed:
- I got information and advice that will develop and improve my tech strategy
- I now get that a TecHome is about more than electronics
- We’ll be including more technology as standard in our homes
- We’ll be developing strong upgrade paths for home tech
- I made valuable business contacts with peers and vendors
More than 100 technology decision-makers from high-volume builders were hosted to the event by producer AE Ventures—a 50% increase in guests versus 2014. Companies included:
- Beazer Homes
- California Homebuilders
- Granite Ridge Builders
- Lexar Homes
- Pardee Homes
- Pepper Viner
- Taylor Morrison, Inc.
- The New Home Company
Guests took in session content and interacted in boardroom presentations and one-on-one meetings with more than 60 leading technology companies across the spectrum of tech products. Brands included:
- Clare Controls
- GE Home Technologies
- Hunter Douglas
- Kohler Co.
- LG Electronics U.S.A.
- Vivint, and more
“The TecHome Builder Summit changed attitudes and behaviors like no other event we’ve ever produced,” said AE Ventures president, John Galante.
“And the sponsors who contributed to these changes are in a great position to be part of the implementations that will likely ensue.”
“Now it’s on to spreading that message to luxury builders and a cross-section of contracting companies at the TecHome Builder LUX and TecHome Contractor Summits in November 2015 and to thousands of industry players at our new trade show, TecHomeX, in March 2016.”
